Mermet fabrics: Did you know?

Sunscreen® exterior fabrics by Mermet : the thermal and aesthetic solution

Whether for housing, shops or office buildings... Today, glass has become the chosen material for the

construction industry. While providing natural light and visual contact with the outside, it can just as easily become a source of heat and glare. To maintain the well-being of users, it then becomes necessary to add an effective solar protection system and, for optimal performance, to install such protection on the outside in order to stop sunlight before it reaches the glass.

To this end, Mermet, a manufacturer renowned for its fabrics based on coated fibreglass yarns, offers a wide range of solutions to problems faced by builders or architects and provides protection which is:

- effective against heat,

- capable of combining a good level of natural light with very good exterior vision,

- and which is above all passive, minimising the need for artificial lighting and/or air conditioning, which together are responsible for over 40% of carbon dioxide emissions!

Two fabrics from the Mermet® 2009-2012 collection are ideal for exterior applications:

- Satiné 5500 – available in 33 colours on both sides and in 5 different widths (up to 285cm). As the top-selling product, it is the affordable and comfortable solution for all seasons. Its diagonal weave also provides optimal glare control,

- Natté 4503 – available in 30 colours and in width 250cm.Ideal for all high tensile applications, its tight weave and basket weave pattern ensure high performance and make it usable railroaded.

Mermet, for better thermal comfort

The improvement of the thermal performance of buildings has become a worldwide strategic issue in terms of ecological and environmental protection. A widely-used and passive solution, the use of blinds enables us to make significant energy savings.

- In summer, the temperature of a room in a building with the windows closed and a facade composed of 50% or more glass can be 10° to 15°C higher than the outside temperature! The installation of a Mermet® fabric as an exterior blind will reduce the room temperature by between 5° and 15°C, thereby avoiding excessive use of air conditioning,

- In winter on the other hand, it will prevent heat loss and reduce heating requirements.

The use of Mermet® fabrics provides other unique advantages:

- they are able to block out up to 96% of sunlight. In exterior applications, depending on the colours chosen, the Mermet® fabrics Satiné 5500 and Natté 4503 meet class 4 (very effective) requirements of the EN 14501 standard and the 0.1 maximum value of RT 2012,

- thanks to their aerated weave, they offer effective ventilation and are capable of eliminating heat which builds up between the glass and the blind,

- they have all been certified and labelled Enduris™ Glass Core, and bear the approval mark.

As a result of its desire to increase public awareness of its expertise, Mermet is an active partner in the www.textinergie.org site, a simulation model used to estimate the potential energy savings which can be made by installing a textile solar protection system.

Mermet, for simple and effective solar protection

The added benefits of Mermet fabrics? Full glare control while maintaining perfect transparency.

Thanks to their coating and the regular weave of glass fibres, Sunscreen® fabrics:

- retain the best of natural light,

- protect against glare,

- offer genuine transparency and a very clear exterior view, a real competitive advantage in terms of aesthetics and well-being. Mermet is also the only company which quantifies its transparency*.

The composition of Mermet’s Sunscreen® fabrics also guarantees dimensional stability, excellent mechanical strength and resistance to variations in temperature and weather conditions… and this applies to all product types (roller blinds, awnings, velums, solar screens etc.).

With its Sunscreen® fabrics, Mermet provides a high-quality and high-performance solution for the construction industry. Technical fabrics for solar protection have become a real alternative and form an integral part of the search for solutions to present-day environmental issues.

* The Modulight® Rapid’ Selection is a Mermet tool which, via 4 comfort indexes (Level of Incoming Light, Glare Control, Heat Protection and Outward Visibility Quality), enables the right fabric to be chosen according to application and colour selection.
