Sunscreen® fabrics

The Sunscreen® fabrics are made from regular coated fibreglass yarns.

Spun fibreglass yarn, enclosed in a coating with accuracy to one hundredth of a mm, with its body coloured.

  • Perfectly calibrated yarns
  • The yarn remains uniform regardless of its appearance

Mermet offers two yarn 2 dimensions :

  • Thick for external applications
  • Fine for internal applications

Why glass ?

Robustness of the raw material

Glass is a mineral fibre that offers numerous advantages :

  • Hardness
  • Durability
  • Stability and resistance to stretching
  • Chemically inert
  • Non-flammable

Protection by flexible coating

Coating fibreglass yarn softens the yarn and gives it flexibility. This flexible coating is guaranteed lead-free.

What coating provides :

Technical nature of the manufacturing process

During weaving* with a choice of weaves, you combine textiles and performance characteristics (choice of the motif, the size of the holes in the fabric's weave, the width, etc.).

The final heat treatment fixes the yarns in the warp and the weft of the fabric in order to guarantee its stability and to give it its final shape.

* Warp yarns interwoven with the weft yarns.

The advantages of coated fibreglass fabrics

    • A composite thread that can withstand all tests
    • A combination which provides a durable, optimal product

    • A material and a process that give the fabric its strength at various levels :

Breaking strength : The fabric can withstand a heavy load or major strains without breaking or tearing.

Excellent dimensional stability, resistance to deformation : The fabric neither stretches nor shrinks. It retains its original dimensions within the required tolerances, even when large dimensions are involved.

Bad weather and durability: Thanks to the coating, water does not get into the filaments constituting the fibreglass. Sunscreen® fabrics can therefore be rolled up wet without any risks.

Stability to heat variations (use between -30°C and +60°C).

Colourfastness in relation to UV rays : No deterioration of the colours over time.

Natural ventilation : Sunscreen® fabrics have natural ventilation qualities thanks to their porosity in air.

Excellent transparency : The diameter of the fibreglass base and the coating applied to it are regular. Thus, with a hi-tech weaving process that is also regular, you obtain a fabric with optimal transparency and strength.

    Aesthetic appearance

International fire classifications : M1, B1, FR, BS... Mermet fabrics comply with the most stringent fire safety standards in the world.

Quality control : Thanks to their manufacturing process subject to ISO quality control, Mermet fabrics comply with the performance requirements of the European products standards in force.

IMO requirements for use in a marine atmosphere.

Health, Hygiene and the Environment : Mermet fabrics, which fully comply with legislation, are treated with ingredients that do not emit any hazardous substance exceeding the maximum levels laid down in European standards and other health and safety regulations.
Mermet fabrics have Oekotex standard 100 certification, a quality label that in particular certifies their harmlessness in relation to risks of irritation and allergies.
They are guaranteed lead-free, thus fulfilling air quality requirements inside buildings.

They do not rot or accumulate mould, are easy to clean, and can withstand chemicals.

: Numerous colours are possible by mixing coloured yarns.
